Shabby Stickpin Jar

Is it just me, or has this winter gone on and on? We had a few really nice days, but this afternoon is supposed to be a mixture of rain and snow... sigh... bring on the warmer weather... not the high 80's and 90's with all the humidity, mind you, just the 70-75's with a slight breeze, I'm not asking for much am I???
I was recently in a Valentine swap with some ladies and mine ended up being VERY late, like she got my box on St. Patrick's Day late.... I'm so sorry, again, Wendy!!! This was one of the things I made her, I took a mason jar, made a pincushion top and glued it to the lid, decorated it with a doily,  ribbons, and flowers... I loved how it turned out and think I'll have to make one for myself! I also made the stickpins on top and added some plain ones in the jar for her to make her own!
I can't wait for the garage sales to start, I'm going to be on the lookout for old laces ( or new!), buttons and lots of costume jewelry to take apart and use on projects!
Enjoy your day!
Hugs,
Teri

Little Artist Party!

Hello! Again, a long time between posts, yet I feel like I just did one!!! Time flies I guess! Today's post is on my granddaughter's 6th birthday party! She wanted an art party, so we headed to pinterest for some ideas and took off with it! I made the little girls each an apron from old jeans and ironed their initial on them. They decorated an 8 inch letter with paint and gems and punches... and did a wonderful job!!! Kaitlyn was so happy with it and thanked me over and over!! All totally worth it!
So here are the invitations:

Kaitlyn saw this cake on pinterst and loved it!!! So my daughter in law had her friend make it!

I made labels that said "Kaitlyn's Creative Juice" to go on the drinks! Of course each girl had her own name on it!

I made a paint palette for each artist out of a Styrofoam paper plate, punched a hole for the hole and then tied a paint brush on it! We squirted puddles of paint on it for them to use. Here's each place setting... the party hats are store bought and I added a rosette to each one and glued white rick rack around the bottom. The little red striped cups have gems in them and the blue ones have glue and toothpicks to glue with. Each girl got an easel with a little "Artist at Work" sign on it...

I cut the word ART in 10" letters from the Base Camp Cricut cartridge and we hung them from the paper lanterns in the center of the room...

The door sign to welcome the party guests!

A Happy Birthday banner is a must have!

And the rice krispie treat "paint brush" to take home!

I also made little art aprons for each girl from old jean legs and used bias tape around the edges and fused the initial to each one, here's Kaitlyn in hers...

They all had a great time creating and really did a great job with the letters!!!! Very creative, little girls!!!!!

All in all, a successful day! And it was all done in two hours!!! Funny how all the preparations take so much longer than the actual party!!! And it was all worth it when a precious 6 year old tells me "Thank You, Grandma, for making my party so nice!"
melt....
Have a wonderful day!!
Hugs,
Teri

Flowers Galore!

I've been making flowers lately. Actually for the past two days... and I think I'm addicted to them! LOL! I love to watch on youtube, jennings644, Fiona! Oh my goodness, she just shares the most gorgeous things that she creates!!! Such shabby treasures and teaches you how to make them, too!!!! So I love lace and ribbon and buttons and bling and these flowers just are right up my alley!!! Some of them are quite large, about 5" across and I plan to use them on pillows or purses that I'll me making. The others are smaller and are perfect for altered boxes and such! I also learned how to make the paper "roses" from her, too!! I've had fun playing around with different size circles to make different sizes. Easy peasy, but oh so pretty!!! So, thank you, Fiona, for sharing your talents with us and you need to check out her youtube channel!!!!!

Off to make more!!! Enjoy the day!!

Teri

Hello Kitty!!

Oh gosh, two posts in one day!!! I forgot to post the Hello Kitty banner I made for my granddaughter! They just moved into a new house and the kids finally have their own rooms... Kaitlyn, of course, has a Hello Kitty theme going on, so we talked about it and she really wanted a little banner for above her desk! It's done, but not up yet, I have to take it over! When I talked to her yesterday, she told me we have to find a new spot for it, because Daddy hung her bulletin board above the desk!!! So I told her I thought a cute spot would be above her bed... she thought about it for a couple seconds and gave the thumbs up!! LOL! The next banner up is a Cleveland Browns one for Matthew, I have the letters all cut out, but couldn't believe I had NO brown cardstock for the base!!! His should be pretty easy though!!!!
Hope you like it!!! I think it turned out sweet!!!!!

I used the  Pretty Pennants Cricut cartridge for the base and the Hello Kitty cartridge. Gathered some tulle for the flowers and had the cute gingham flowers for the centers. Of course, I had to add the buttons to jazz it up!!!!

Teri

Finally some play time!!

Happy Monday! This weekend was so cold and snowy, we stayed in the whole time and on Saturday, I rarely left the art room!! It was a much needed day and I enjoyed every minute of it!!! I got a box finished for a swap I'm in, can't show it yet until it gets mailed!! I did make a couple sets of very simple notecards, the first set is using CTMH's January special... I won it from my friend Janice's drawing!!! It's so cute, the hearts come all together on one stamp, but I had a terrible time stamping different colors with it, so I cut one off and just used it like that! It lends itself to many different greetings you could use... I used a little Hello Friend from another set I had. The second set is done on kraft paper and stamped with little doilies from the Lost and Found collection from My Minds Eye. I used white Staz-on ink but wish it would have been brighter... any one know of a white ink that's really good???

We're in for really cold temps tonight and the rest of the week, glad I have leftover homemade chicken soup for tonight!!! I'm working on a little "treasure" box for a friend of mine who needs a baby gift... got the lid done and will work on the dividers tonight... then I'll be able to show that, too!
Keep warm wherever you are!!!!
Hugs,
Teri

An altered Christmas box...

Happy New Year!! Yes, it's the middle of January already, but that's kind of how I roll lately... late...late...late!!!! There's just always something going on that takes me away from what I really want to be doing.... playing in the art room! I have quite a few projects that I need to get done, so I'm going to try to make that a priority for once! I was in a swap with some wonderful girls and I made this altered box for my partner! I loved the way it turned out and it was fun using the different elements, like the spool and the vintage tree! Hope you like it, too!

The feet are little wooden spool wrapped in the same paper as the box. I got the gorgeous trim at a shop in North Carolina when I was visiting with my best friend! The tree and spool are from a little vintage shop here in Medina... love when you can find little treasures like that! I think with the button and ribbon on the tree it almost looks like an angel!
Have a wonderful week!

Teri

Sweet Christmas trees...

I just love making these darling little Christmas trees, wrapped with soft, fluffy yarn and pretty jewels and pearls added! Finding the perfect shiny button for the top, I think they'll look so cute under a glass dome with some vintage looking trees and some snow!!!
Have a Merry Christmas!!!!
